Hayden’s Arkansas River Fishing Report
Aug 26 2010
Over the last few days I have fished the river from the Hayden Meadows area below Leadville all the way down to Cotopaxi, and all I have encountered has been consistent fishing no matter where I have been.
Although bead head droppers have been working well, it is by far and away the dry flies that have been producing the most consistent results, with a PMX being my fly of choice, although parachute adams and stimulators have been doing the business also.
About the only fly in the ointment has been the odd plug of murky water making it’s way downstream on account of the rains we have been blessed with over the last month or so. By paying attention to the gauges and figuring where the muddy water is coming from it is relatively easy to get above the offending side drainages. For those less forensically inclined, a quick call to ArkAnglers will help figure out the best place to be.
We are still looking at a couple of months at least of consistent fishing until cooler temperatures have a lasting effect on the fish feeding patterns, so get out there and enjoy!
